Introduce yourself in a few words for those who don’t know you.
I’m a PhD student. Half-British/half-French, but that means little to me beyond being able to speak both languages at a native level. I love video games, literature, cinema and music and enjoy visiting a good art exhibition when the chance pops up. I have a passion for photography as it allows me to explore my surroundings in a less anxious way, being on the autism spectrum, photography really helps.
What is your first memory related to the horror genre (literature, cinema or video games ) ?
I vaguely remember an 80s film called Pulse being on somewhere and that a pretty lady got into a shower and was scalded to death, don’t remember anything else of the film though. I also remember watching Stephen King’s It as a kid and giving storm drains a wider berth.
What is your favorite horror video game ?
Silent Hill 2, I don’t think anything comes close to this, although I haven’t played too many.
Is this the game that scared you the most ?
No, that would be Red Dead Redemption 2, those Murfree Brood and Skinner Brothers, alongside those cougars that like to creep up on you (give me wolves any day). It works as Morgan is frail due to illness, so these threats feel all the more real. I can handle the other gangs, they are just outlaws, but the Murfree and Skinners are twisted.
Who is the scariest video game character in your opinion ?
Probably Bray and Tammy Aberdeen from Red Dead Redemption 2, you can probably guess there’s just something about inbred swamp folk that irks me, no offense to any inbred swamp folk out there.
The last game that marked you (not necessarily related to horror) ?
Probably Watch Dogs: Legion. Being half-British and understanding the politics and culture of those isles, the game hits a little too close to home. Everything in the game just feels like it’s one step away from what is actually happening right now, it’s a very possible and plausible direction the world and London is heading in.
Which scene in a video game scared you or disgusted you the most ?
I don’t really get scared in the conventional sense, just feel uncomfortable. Some games make me feel uncomfortable, games like RDR2, the first Tomb Raider reboot (it’s just more of those inbred swamp folk types again), or Medal of Honor: Frontline (there’s something pleasant about killing Nazis, but their mere presence hints at unpleasant things).
What are you really afraid of ?
Stupidity in positions of power or given a public platform (social media is terrible for this, the village idiot who can get everyone to hear his/her ramblings leads to stuff like flatearthers being a thing in 2021), it’s all a little too common at the moment.
What are the 3 VPs that you recommend to others and why ?
I could not say, too many VPers have their own unique styles and many just seem like great human beings which makes the entire community nice to be involved in. I would mention @TheLoonBlade though, his No Man’s Sky shots are simply great to look at.
Do you prefer a candlelit meal with Hannibal Lecter or play hide and seek with Michael Myers ?
I’m a fan of Michael Myers, he’s just a little misunderstood, although I’d rarely turn down a nice glass of Chianti.
